As first time home buyers, we were certainly overwhelmed with entering the highly competitive New York City real estate market. Luckily we were referred to George Matthews. We were initially interested in pursuing a home purchase in Brooklyn and were especially open to exploring a number of emerging market neighborhoods with good subway access to Manhattan. George made the strategic decision to partner with his Warburg colleague, Jamie Fedorko who is Warburg’s resident Brooklyn expert. After about two months of consecutive weekend searches, we realized that we needed to increase our budget in order to find the right apartment to meet all of our specific requirements, including a private outdoor space. George had recently represented a buyer in Long Island City (LIC) and realized that based on our price range there was more value to be had in LIC vs. Brooklyn. We joined George to preview about five properties and found our ideal residence, a ground floor two-bedroom/two-bath duplex with a large private outdoor patio space in a boutique new condo development in the up and coming Queens Plaza area at a price well below comparable units in many of Brooklyn’s trendy neighborhoods. We were immediately attracted to LIC for its great transportation network of subways with easy access to Manhattan as well as the waterfront Gantry Park and esplanade. Both George and Jamie are well informed regarding the market and have a clear vision of where this Queens neighborhood is heading. We got everything we wanted within our budget; a great value opportunity in one of NYC’s top emerging neighborhoods! Even though the process took longer than anticipated, due to some issues with the Sponsor, George and Jamie along with our counsel stayed focused and monitored the transaction very closely. We eventually made it to the finish line and couldn’t be happier! George guided us through every step of the process and continues to loop us in on the rapidly transforming neighborhood and market.
