The Upper West Side is one of the city's most comfortable and affluent neighborhoods. Gracious apartment buildings march down the avenues and the majority of the cross-streets are lined with brownstones. It has the reputation of being a liberal bastion - home to many of New York City's cultural and artistic workers, and with many famous residents. The area is lively, leafy and full of New Yorker's twin obsessions - culture and food.

Broadway is the heart of the commercial and business life of the Upper West Side, with restaurants, major chains, movie theaters and independent stores bustling with shoppers. Central Park West borders the park, while Riverside Park on the east gives lovely views of the Hudson. The UWS is also home to the Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, which houses the Metropolitan Opera, the New York Philharmonic, and The Juilliard School.
