The holiday season will soon be upon us, and we can’t think of a better way to enjoy a fall day than strolling the chic boutiques and food purveyors of the Flatiron District. You may start your foray with your holiday shopping list in mind, but we won’t tell if a few treats for yourself make their way into your shopping bags.

Chocolat Moderne (Image: Yelp)
If you have chocolate lovers on your holiday list, you must seek out the Chocolat Moderne factory and showroom, located on the ninth floor of an unassuming office building. You’ll be so glad you did. We recommend the Kimono Collection for your sweetheart. Inside they’ll find dark chocolate bon-bons decorated with patterns inspired by cherry blossoms and kimonos and infused with savory and sweet Japanese ingredients, including mint, adzuki bean paste and Fuyu persimmons. Yum!

Know someone who’s mad about mustard? Then Le Maison Maille, a boutique with 35 varieties on hand, is a must-visit. They have decadent black truffle-based mustards that are to die for and an assortment of vinegars, but this holiday season you can’t go wrong in giving a gift box of their fine, cheese-inspired mustards.

Speaking of cheese, Beecher’s Handmade Cheese has a curated selection of American artisanal cheese made right before your eyes. While you’re there, enjoy a bite at the café or saunter downstairs to The Cellar for a glass of wine. But, before you leave, don’t forget to pick up their Connoisseur’s Collection of their best cheeses, including the intriguing No Woman — a savory cheese with Jamaican Jerk spices.

Marimekko is a world-renown design house celebrated for its original prints. Founded in 1951, its unconventional designs created new norms in the tradition of textile printing and clothing in Finland. At the flagship New York City store, one new arrival sure to get attention is the Kreeta dress — a quilted cotton V-neck dress with a standout print, great for layering this season. For that special someone, go above and beyond grab this Yvette coat made of mohair-cotton.

We’re mad for their curated collection of chocolates and sweets, the perfect little something for co-workers. For that person who has everything, might we suggest this Tom Dixon glass serving bowl? Named one of the best independent bookstores in New York City by Gothamist, Rizzoli’s luscious new shop in the Flatiron District is just as beautiful as their revered 57th Street location. Buy a Rizzoli tote and fill it up with a mix of new bestsellers and classics from the 5,000-square-foot store. Perfect for those of us who refuse to believe that print is dead.
